Why I made it: This was almost an awkward costume to do since I was an Umi fan for years, but as I grew older Hikaru’s strength and character grew on me.

Construction: The red shirt, shoulder-shawl, top skirt and pouch belt were purchased from Dragon Illusions’ Shawny, who made it to perfection with buckles and clips, and it just happened to fit me to a “T”. The headpiece was constructed in one night with wire, a commissioned resin gem, and an elastic synthetic fabric with interfacing; the petticoat was purchased, and everything else basically put together for this. The wig came in shorter than I had anticipated, but it worked for its purpose, and I wefted a full extension to the wig end for the braid, the colors matching seamlessly much to my joy.

Personal thoughts: I was quite happy that I chose to go with her pink hair like in the manga and artwork over red, it wouldn’t have looked quite right otherwise. It’s one of the most comfortable costumes I’ve worn, and I feel like such a pink fluffy goofball prancing around in it!  I’m super happy with its quality, and that my first Ebay-costume buying experience was a terrific one ^^
