Mari Makinami
Mari Illustrious Makinami
Series: Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance
Variation: school uniform
Worn at: Sakuracon 2010
Why I made this: When Mari’s artwork started coming out for the release of Evangelion 2.0, I loved it and wanted to try making it. After watching Evangelion 2.0, I love her even more! Mari is so complex, but has a fun personality and a badass persona.
Construction: The shirt was bought and altered, and I made the school patch from Heat-n-Bond appliqué instead of satin-stitching for lack of sanity, and time restraints. The skirt was made by me (with a nearly impossible to find plaid color pattern!), headband made with craft foam and sealed with enamel, and wig purchased on Ebay – with which I was rather impressed with for the range of high and low lights, giving it a more realistic color.
Personal thoughts: I didn’t have time at the first convention worn to get proper makeup on, nor to fix the tie, so I hope a good photoshoot will be upcoming for Mari. Thanks to Eurobeatking for the initial photos, the construction outside is quite appropriate to Evangelion, and the location looks just like the roof she landed on in her first school-girl scene! haha
