Why I made it: Sara stood out as a strong girl thrust into precarious situations out of her control, and her fight to get her love and her life back (and as only a side character) was touching to read. I wanted an excuse to try making wings, so this came together over the summer pretty quick when my friends agreed to get in on it.

Construction: I pieced together the vest, shirt and skirt from my closet, and curled my hair in her style. The wings took about a month to make, as they were my first attempt. I used wire hangers for the base, chicken wire, batting, and 1 pound of turkey hen rounds. Although I now know how I’ll make the next pair differently, I’m quite proud of them nonetheless. Strangely, my favorite parts of the costume are the matching heart necklace and a ring similar to the one Setsuna gave her.
