KOS-MOS

KOS-MOS

Series: Xenosaga Episode I

Worn at: Anime Oasis 2007, Nan Desu Kan 2007 & 2008

Why I made it: KOSMOS was the first robot I had seen in action quite like this, I literally could not put down the game once I started playing it. The mysterious persona and purpose behind KOSMOS enamored me with the game, and wanting to make her despite the costume being far beyond my skill level. When I heard Xenosaga III was going to be released in the fall of 2006, I spent the entire summer making the costume.

Construction: The base for the suit was a swimsuit variant, with most of the outfit involving 40+ hours of hand sewing due to choosing to work with difficult fabrics. The visor was made out of Rigid Wrap and then painted, the gloves bought and modified, the armor out of stuffed gold lame and thick vinyl, and the boots were my first go about in boot-covers. I’ve  also gone through a few colors and lengths of wigs through this costume’s run.

Personal Thoughts: My little bundle of pride and joy! It was the first costume of this calibur that I had done without my mother’s help. Looking back on it, it was pretty ghetto and not as nice looking as it could have been, but for the time it was made, I think it was pretty impressive – and I was content in sacrificing accuracy for mobility and comfort. I made her with all the skills I had accumulated at the time, and learned a lot from the process! Now it’s retired, but still one of my favorite costumes to date from all the good memories made.
